Russell Howard 16 nov 08

Russell Howard had to cancel a show in Bridlington on Saturday due to a throat infection but the people of Blackburn were lucky because that break meant he had just enough voice left for a tremendous 75 minutes of non stop lunacy from the star of Mock The Week and 8 Out Of 10 Cats.  When he walked on stage it was literally more like a rock concert than a comedy show with all the teenage (and older) girls in the audience screaming like The Beatles had just reformed and walked on.  Hilarity followed and the girls kept screaming.  Were you there?  What did you think?

I am one of the older ladies that went to the show (over 50) and I had a great time, I never stopped laughing - I was concerned that Russell was not well but had the best time ever.

Bridlington’s Loss was Blackburns Gain. Fantastic night with a struggling Russell praising the Lemsip God for getting him on stage. Howard is more physical than you would expect after hiding behind a desk on Mock the Week and his throat must get strained every night with all the screaming he does during gags. The blackburn audience disappointed with the Q & A at the end but giraffe man is a legend. Would I go again? Absolutely a class act with far more variety in his act than Frankie Boyle could ever muster. More please Russell and get yourself back to Manchester soon so I don’t have to travel. Ed Byrne watch out Russell wants to ruffle your hair!

Russell was FANTASTIC! I was sat directly in front of him on the front row! Luckily he isn’t the sort of comedian that picks on his audience! We were a bit concerned as he looked like he could collapse at any given moment due to illness but he still bounded around the stage! There was some political humour in the middle which wasn’t his usual sort of gag, but it was still funny and I did actually get to the point where I wasn’t laughing anymore I was just crying! It sent me over the edge he was so funny! The only other comedian to do that to me live was Peter Kay, so Russell is good!! Saw him last year as well, and will see him again no doubt! Loved every minute!

We were lucky enough to be in Blackburn last night to see Russell - It was a shame he was feeling ill, but still put on an absolutely fantastic show - Well Done Russell!

Loved every minute of it - shame about the plonkers in the Q&A but he handled it well! Can not wait for the next tour - might go to Manchester next time though!!!

Brilliant Brilliant Night - Great Job Russell and Steve!

I saw Russell last night and was one of the ladies screaming like The Beatles had just reformed :-) that aside this was my first Comedy Gig and my goodness what a way to start I actually missed some of the act because my eyes were streaming due to incessant laughter I’ve just recovered from a Throat infection so I can imagine how tough it must have been to get out there and give so much energy. WOW! Please come back soon!!!!!

Pure class all evening, including “It’s not Steve…” as the support act.

Only wrong note was the knuckle-draggers asking the questions (not including giraffe man).

By the way, I’ll never look at the Churchill Dog in the same way again…

Literally the funniest person I have ever seen. At one point I had to cover my ears so I couldn’t hear any more jokes as I was about to throw up with laughing so hard. Admittedly I don’t get out much but he is still the funniest thing since that laughing baby on you tube. He was clearly very ill yet still gave us a brilliant performance. I have just bought his live DVD on the back of that performance and it should be in everyones christmas stocking.

Not quit like a rock concert but Russell was very funny and did a great job just to get through the night.
No suprises though what you see on the telly is exectly what you get.

I saw Russell last year at King George’s, and since then he’s grown a small reputation for repeating some of his gags, so I was concerned that I would have heard it all before. In reality, not the case at all! Everything I heard was completely new, and absolutely hilarious to boot. Once again I was in fits, and I was very impressed for Russell to do such a good show when obviously still quite ill.

Long live Octo-Russell!!!
Yes. Sorry, that was me.

Russell was clearly unwell when he came on stage but he didn’t disappoint one bit. From start to finish it was non-stop hilarity. My face hurt by the end of the gig.

For my money Steve the support act was brilliant and surely a headline act in the making. VERY funny.

I hope to see Russell live again.

Had a fantastic night Russell though clearly unwell pulled of a cracking night laughed all the way through. Looking forward to seeing him again.

Loved every second of the show, steve hall included. Can’t wait to see him (or both) again on the next tour. I just hope I can cope with him when he’s not ill because there were times when I thought I was going to die laughing he was that funny!

great performance! we missed the first five minutes of russells performance due to bein left fustrated after being refused a beverage at the bar having queued up for 25 minutes!!!!!! russell wiped the floor with frankie boyle, peter kay and steve coogan with his enthuiasm and laugh a minute jokes! we were aching towards the end through bein doubled over! the q&a was a let down, but russell managed to bypass the questions to fit in 15-20 mins of more observational tomfoolery!!! the rufus wainwright reference went down a treat also!

i thought it was absolutely hilarious
the support act was quite funny aswell
but i was with my parents so the whole
shouting your favourite swear word thing was a bit iffy.
but other than that i found it hilarious!
and i got a tshirt :)
the Q+A thing was a bit of a flop
but he handled it well
giraffe man - hilarious!
one of blackburns finest i presume haha
xx

What can I add Russell was fantastic and ended for me what was a fanatastic weekend that started by seeing Ed Byrne on Friday in York. I think i’ll need time to recover from all the laughter.

Russell was clearly unwell but he still gave a totally brilliant performance from start to finish. That man deserves a medal!

After seeing Seve Coogan’s lazy, poorly planned “show” at the same venue just weeks before, I hope the creator of Partridge et al catches Russell Howard’s energetic, fast-paced and hilarious show - and hangs his head in shame.

While Coogan blundered his way through an evening of dated, derivative comedy that occasionally raised polite chuckles, Howard slayed the audience with an avalanche of gags, anecdotes and one-liners that had me in tears within two minutes and have left my throat sore a day later. Howard was not afraid to use thought-provoking and intelligent material, but never left a moment for the audience to catch their breath before delivering another gag and didn’t make us feel like we were being lectured. At the same time he managed to stray into taboo subjects and occasionally base humour without ever risking offence, probably due to his child-like demeanour that gives him that all-important likeability factor.

In short, this guy has it all. Certain comedy “legends” should be worried.

Not sure what I was expecting from Russell Howard but I was blown away. He was amazingly funny and all for £15 ! I have never laughed so much at a stand up gig before, Steve Hall as support didn’t disappoint either.

Can’t wait to see him again.

Shame on you Steve Coogan

Is that any way to behaaaaave?!!!!

If Russell can be that good when he’s one step short of dying how good is he when feeling well??!!?? Comedians aren’t supposed to be that good that young. Hope he comes back next year - he’ll probably find the stage awash with lemsips just in case. The wide age range in the audience meant he had to work doubly hard to reach the funny bones of all generations (we were there with our late-teenage children). Giraffe Man is a legend.

Eventhough Russell was suffering with a ‘Bad Cough’, he was AMAZING!!!!
I was with my husband & even he said there were ‘Jokes & Comments’ that he’d never heard before! (He’s from Liverpool & that’s 1 of the most important things he expects in a comedy show!!;-)
We’ll definately see him again!!

Well done KGH for putting on such amazing talent!! X

Russell was quality, and I laughed all the way threw the night. Im even more happier after watching the shambles steve coogan gave us.

My faith in stand up is back..

I was the one screaming “We love you, Russell”!. He was absolutely fantastic and I’m a fan for life now.

Have to agree with all the comments. A brilliant night, enjoyed every minute.

I felt for Russell and his throat, but he soldiered on to give a FANTASTIC performance, true professional.

I would definately go and see him again and have recommended it to all my friends!

The best medicine ever…. :)

One of the funniest nights ever! Had a brilliant time and am just about getting over the pain of laughing so much - thanks for Russell for soldiering on and doing the gig even though he was poorly-sick!

Russell’s performance was amazing despite his poorly throat! Me and my boyfriend travelled down from Glasgow to see the show and it was defo worth the journey.
QnA at the end was a minor downside to the experience. Laugh a minute comedy from Russell had me crying in my seat!!
He’s such a great guy for coming on despite his illness…and he even stopped to have a some photos taken and signed my ticket!

Absolutly Fab!

xx
