Doves- 2nd May 2010

Sunday night saw nearly 2000 fans descend on King George’s Hall to see Mancunian born alternative rock band ‘Doves’.

Local Bolton band ‘Cherry Ghost’ supported, playing to a full crowd of fans with a fantastic atmosphere!

Were you there? What did you think?

The Doves were brilliant, first time seeing them live, and they did not disappoint. The Bank Holiday crowd were in good form (if a little inebriated) and the band seemed to genuinely respond well to this, coming back on to 2 encores! The searing melodies, pounding beats and great guitar work all made for a really great way to spend a Sunday night, I would definitely see the Doves again. Shame I missed Cherry Ghost, we were trying to get served in the bar for 45 mins…

Hi,
DOVES rocked on Sunday night! What a fantastic gig. It’s about time there was a decent band on (as well as couteeners) in what used to be one of the best night-life towns in the country.
This was a great night out only let down slightly by the poor organisation of KGH, e.g. not enough bar staff, running out of wrist bands on the door (ticket sales = wrist bands needed), etc.
There’s no reason why KGH can’t have gigs like this every weekend and put Blackburn back on the map again. There’s many a good band out there touring the country all the time so why aren’t they on here.
Someone told me DOVES were only on here because everywhere else in the North-West was booked out.
Come on Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council & KGH - sort it out before Blackburn doesn’t have a night-life!

Doves great! great! great! more of these band nights please. The bank holiday saw Stuart Francis brill night, Doves see above and Daniel o Donell on( my taste but gran liked him) Blackburn and KGH are having good gigs. Keep up the good work. Bars at these kind of gigs are always busy just be prepared to wait and have your drinks order ready.Darwen Live just around the corner! Another weekend on the lash. Bring it on!

Had a fantastic night watching Doves. After trying to get to see the band live for many years and not making it my wait was well worth it. Cherry Ghost were excellent as support and from my hometown of Bolton so a double bonus there. The venue is really good and I know it plays host to many other entertainment genres. The box office staff were efficient and we got a drink in the adjoining bar, avoiding the long wait others had upstairs,so no critism from me. Thankyou especially to Doves frontman Jimmi,he looked me in the eye and threw me a drumstick, a momento to treasure!Cant wait to see them back there again hopefully :)
